Today we visited a green energy company. I left there full of admiration and lots of questions.
Admiration for the fact that this company was started by the community to serve themselves. That they took personal responsibility for their energy needs, and implemented a win win, collaborative solution that works for everyone. They took a low tech solution and utilised it in innovative ways.
I have lots of questions about how does a society engender such cooperation and care for their neighbours? what factors come together to encourage community spirit? How does a good idea transform into a company that's designed not to make profit but to benefit its members? I think answering these questions will be of great interest and applicability to organisations. How do you create a sense of pride and community for the good of each other? I think this is the secret to success...
So over the next four and a half weeks i'm on the look out for some clues from our Danish friends. Clues as to how this happens!
