Skive...pure life

I am someone who needs to really experience something for myself to get the learning. This is why I have found the GSE so interesting and inspiring and we have not even been here a week yet!

I have read so many articles about high performing teams, organisational performance and change management and I 'get' the concepts but to see and feel it in action really cements the learning and helps me get a much greater sense and clarity about how to apply it.

So I had a little clue about the importance of a simple, tangible vision from our visit to Wave Star Energy on Wednesday. Everyone there knew what they were to achieve and how success was measured. Posters were put up to remind everyone of their goal. Synergies and efficiencies! You could see this permeate through everything they did. There was no doubting what they were there for. They were focused.

But today, after meeting them Mayor at the Skive Municipal Council I really got it. After the local council amalgamations in 2009, where three local councils become one, a visioning workshop was held. Here they created the vision for the region..."Pure life"...!! I often get told I live in fairyland because i dream of a place where things work in harmony, decisions are made for the greater good and happiness is the main goal ...so to hear a local council holistically plan for the future and how it contributes to creating a pure life for its citizens I think I have found my fairyland! ...this vision is so powerful and meaningful that i want to be part of it! So as the textbooks say a vision needs to be something that people connect to and want for themselves...but here it is in action!...imagine being a resident here and this is what you as a community strive for...! BLISS!!

So the absolute icing on the cake i think is how they created a connection to the vision. They asked locals to share what living a pure life means to them...this is ingenious!!. So simple yet so powerful! This has sparked an idea in me...I think I will have to visit storytelling as a concept to motive and inspire change...how ingenious though to get the stories from the people...! At the Public Trustee we have a very proud and rich history of serving our clients...i think we need to let's harness people's intrinsic motivation to "make a difference" and get stories from our staff about how they have made a difference for their clients...! Love love love this idea!
